Multiple providers serve the area (Spectrum, AT&T Fiber where available, and others). Check your exact address with each for what's on your street.
Trash, recycling & big stuff
- Trash day is Tuesday. All three carts (trash, recycling, and organics) go out together. Out by 6 a.m., back in that evening.
- Holiday weeks run a day late. Burrtec takes six holidays off. When one lands on a Monday or Tuesday, our pickup moves to Wednesday that week; a holiday on a weekend, or Thanksgiving (always a Thursday), doesn't change our day. Dates are at the bottom of this card.
- Three carts — trash, recycling, and organics (yard + food waste). Organics means food scraps too, not just yard trimmings.
- Free bulky-item pickup — up to 4 times a year, 3 large items each (furniture, appliances, branches). Schedule at least 48 hours ahead with Burrtec ↗ or call (661) 222-2249.
- Electronics (e-waste) — never in the carts. Burrtec service customers can drop them at the Burrtec yard, 26000 Springbrook Ave, Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and the 3rd Saturday 8 a.m.–noon. That yard takes bulky items and e-waste only, not the rest of the list below.
- Household batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, rechargeable, button) — free drop-off bins at the Valencia Library (23743 W. Valencia Blvd) and City Hall, among other City sites. Tape the terminals on lithium batteries first. City list ↗
- Paint — free take-back at paint stores, not at Burrtec. Vista Paint, 21010 Golden Triangle Rd (up to 20 gal/day); Sherwin-Williams, 21021 Soledad Canyon Rd (5 gal/day); Dunn-Edwards, 25520 The Old Road, Stevenson Ranch (15 gal/day). Call ahead.
- Propane tanks, chemicals, motor oil & the rest — County S.A.F.E. Centers take these free year-round, Sat & Sun 9 a.m.–3 p.m.: 11025 Randall St, Sun Valley, and 10241 N. Balboa Blvd, Northridge. - Illegal dumping in the common areas — report to the City Stormwater Hotline, (661) 222-7222.

Living in a fire zone — staying insured
- We're in high fire-hazard country. CAL FIRE maps much of the Santa Clarita Valley — including around Tesoro Highlands — as high or very-high fire hazard. Check your parcel: CAL FIRE hazard-zone map ↗.
- It's why insurers are getting strict. Non-renewals and steep premiums are common here. The single biggest lever you control is mitigation.
- Harden your home & clear defensible space — California's standard is up to 100 feet (Public Resources Code 4291). This is exactly what the common-area brush by the water towers is about. Start with CAL FIRE's Ready for Wildfire ↗.
- Document it for a discount. The state's "Safer from Wildfires" program (CA Dept. of Insurance) ↗ requires insurers to credit specific mitigation steps — and can move a home from "uninsurable" back to insurable.
- Can't find coverage? The California FAIR Plan ↗ is the state's insurer of last resort — (800) 339-4099.
